Baseball Recap: Sun Valley Victorious

Sun Valley saw some tournament action on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the New Hanover Wildcats.

Caleb Thomas looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Sun Valley's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Justin Iannetto, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. The Spartans are 4-1 when Iannetto posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another was Ayden Matzke, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

The win got Sun Valley back to even at 8-8. As for New Hanover, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Sun Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-1 victory against Ashley on the 7th. As for New Hanover, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-8 win against Southern Alamance on the 7th.
