Basketball Recap: The First Academy's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

The First Academy entered their contest against Viera on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The First Academy Royals fell 58-50 to the Viera Hawks. The Royals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Several Royals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fernando Nieves-Font, who posted 19 points and eight boards. Those 19 points gave Nieves-Font a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Barfield, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

The First Academy's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-7. As for Viera, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

The First Academy will challenge Circle Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The First Academy is facing Circle Christian at the right time seeing as Circle Christian is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. Viera does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
