Baseball Recap: Carter Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clinton, Carter was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Cherokee Chiefs 4-2. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chandler Bowman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Kingston Griph was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Carter is 4-1 when Griph posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mayson Lang, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Carter has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cherokee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carter will welcome Wartburg Central at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cherokee, they will square off against Union County at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
