Basketball Recap: Desert Oasis Gets the Win

Desert Oasis won the last time they faced Sierra Vista, and Kayleigh Upham did her part to make sure it happened again. The Desert Oasis Diamondbacks took down the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions 66-48 on Friday thanks in part to Upham, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds.

Alyssa Atkins-Dowd was another key player, putting up three points in addition to nine steals, eight assists, and five boards. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Sierra Vista lost, don't look at Donnayja Gibson. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 16 on her way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Silvas, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

Desert Oasis' win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Sierra Vista, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-8.

Desert Oasis will challenge Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Democracy Prep Agassi Campus will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Desert Oasis surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sierra Vista, they will venture away from home to face off against Basic at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Sierra Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.
