Baseball Recap: Grosse Pointe South Takes a Loss

Grosse Pointe South lost to St. Clair on Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Blue Devils fell 5-1 to the Saints. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gordon Williams was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed over his last three games.

At the plate, Grosse Pointe South saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Steven Bethell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double was Bethell's first of the season.

Grosse Pointe South's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for St. Clair, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.

Looking ahead, Grosse Pointe South will face off against Utica Ford at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Blue Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Clair, they will head out to challenge Cardinal Mooney Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
