Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Ponder's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Ponder never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Callisburg Wildcats as they made off with an 18-0 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Vada Cochrum made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skylar Kysiak, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Skyler Medders was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Ponder kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Ponder has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Callisburg, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

As of now, neither Ponder nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
