Softball Game Preview: Westlake Demons vs. Holy Name Green Wave

Westlake hasn't had much luck against Holy Name recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Westlake will host Holy Name at 11:00 a.m.

After dropping their season opener at home, Holy Name is headed out to face a Demons team ready to give their home crowd a win. Westlake came up short against Padua Franciscan on Wednesday, falling 16-4.

Westlake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leni Salvator, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Kylie Colacarro, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Holy Name won against North Olmsted on Wednesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Holy Name put the hurt on Normandy with a sharp 15-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Green Wave in their matchups with the Invaders: they've now won four in a row.

Reagan Vavro looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Posa, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Layla Williams was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Westlake might still be hurting after the 14-7 loss they got from Holy Name in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can Westlake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
