Baseball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Franklin County's Winning Streak

Franklin County fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against West Lincoln on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 11-10. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Carter Spring was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caden McMinn and Jarvis Tillman stepped up to the plate in a big way. McMinn scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Tillman scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-6. Those two hits gave McMinn a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Golman, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Even though they lost, Franklin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Franklin County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for West Lincoln, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up. As for West Lincoln, they will square off against Bogue Chitto at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bogue Chitto will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
