Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Wakulla

Wakulla waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Middleburg Broncos.

Charley Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wakulla saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Stephens, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Stephens has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Wakulla pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Middleburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wakulla will host Holmes County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Middleburg, they will take on Mandarin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
