Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lanier). Their defense stepped up to hand the Sam Houston Hurricanes an 8-0 shutout on Friday. Given the Voks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Hurricanes are ranked 820th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lanier's offense was hitting Sam Houston from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Jose Rodr?guez led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Lanier has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those six games. As for Sam Houston, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-11.
