Soccer Game Preview: South Stanly vs. Union Academy

South Stanly is 0-10 against Union Academy since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rowdy Rebel Bulls will head out to square off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. South Stanly has given up an average of 7.9 goals per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Stanly is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game last Wednesday. They came up short against North Stanly, falling 9-0. That's two games in a row now that South Stanly have lost by exactly nine goals.

Meanwhile, Union Academy had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.1 goals) and they went ahead and made it nine last Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Knights an 8-0 shutout. Give Union Academy's defense some credit: that's the team's seventh straight shutout.

Their offense was hitting Gray Stone Day from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Hadassa Garcia led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

Union Academy pushed their record up to 13-3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those five matchups. As for South Stanly, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

South Stanly suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Union Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Rowdy Rebel Bulls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
