Basketball Recap: O'neill Extends Winning Streak to Four

O'Neill had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They secured a 45-41 W over the Ponca Indians. The win was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Indians are ranked 47th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead O'Neill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trevor Alder, who posted 11 points. Alder has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Porter Mathews was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

O'Neill now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Ponca, they moved to 10-2 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

O'Neill will challenge Ainsworth at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ponca, they will take on Guardian Angels Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ponca is facing Guardian Angels Central Catholic at the right time seeing as Guardian Angels Central Catholic is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
