Recap: Omaha Northwest Huskies vs. Buena Vista Bison
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lincoln Southeast, the Omaha Northwest Huskies were happy to have found some success on Friday. They strolled past Buena Vista with points to spare, taking the game 58-42. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Omaha Northwest has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Omaha Northwest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyler Vaughns, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Vaughns pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dontae McDowell, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Buena Vista's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Smith, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Smith grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mogtaba Mohamed, who scored 21 points along with two steals.
Buena Vista struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Omaha Northwest's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8. As for Buena Vista, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Omaha Northwest will take on Burke at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. Burke is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Buena Vista, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Creighton Prep at 3:00 p.m. Creighton Prep will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
