Baseball Game Preview: Garinger Wildcats vs. West Mecklenburg Hawks

Garinger is 0-10 against West Mecklenburg since March of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Garinger Wildcats will square off against the West Mecklenburg Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Garinger has given up an average of 13 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Garinger is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against West Mecklenburg on Thursday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 16-1.

For West Mecklenburg's part, they let Godeson Hakim and Anthony Echevarria run wild. Hakim went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Echevarria scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. What's more, Echevarria posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Alexander Houston was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3.

West Mecklenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garinger only posted an OBP of .364.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.8 runs. As for Garinger, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Garinger has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like West Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 18.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
