Softball Recap: Freeport Pretzels vs. Erie-Prophetstown Cardinals
Freeport's tournament run continued when they took on Erie-Prophetstown on Saturday. The Pretzels had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 3-2.

Mackenzee Matz was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
Matz wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grace Muench, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Freeport has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Erie-Prophetstown, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6.
Freeport wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-1 victory against West Carroll on the 18th. As for Erie-Prophetstown, they have also already played their next matchup, a 13-0 win against Galena on the 18th.
