League recap: Homewood propelled into state Top 25 after victory

Homewood was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Sylacauga. The Patriots came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 32 last week.

Homewood extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 4 this week by beating the Aggies, 49-10. The win marks sixth in a row for the Doug Goodwin's team.

Chance Britnell put up the best numbers through the air as Chilton County bested Briarwood Christian. He finished with nine completions for 84 yards and one touchdown. Britnell's favorite target this week was Kevin Lucas, who caught two passes for 31 yards.

Walter Rutledge was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 149 yards on 15 carries as the Patriots topped Ramsay. Teammate Justin Hardy added to the ground attack by rushing for 143 yards.

Byers was the best wideout in the league this week as the Cavaliers defeated the Rams. Byers racked up one reception for 50 yards. Kenneth Johnson helped Carroll Catholic's passing attack out by catching one ball for one yard.

Homewood's Luke Porter and Devonte Wallace have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Porter has thrown for 652 yards this season, while Wallace, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 16 catches for 334 yards. Michael Seaton from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 804 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chilton County takes on Carroll Catholic. Donnie Hand's team is in second place, while Chris Musso's team is in fifth place.

The Patriots led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Sylacauga. Rutledge caught one passes for four yards in the win.
