Soccer Game Preview: Payson vs. American Leadership Academy

The Payson Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the American Leadership Academy Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Payson took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over West Jordan.

Meanwhile, American Leadership Academy's game on Thursday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They beat American Prep WV by a goal, winning 2-1. The win continues a trend for American Leadership Academy in their matchups with American Prep WV: they've now won four in a row.

Esteban Altema and Joseph Perez scored both of American Leadership Academy's goals, bringing their combined season tally to three goals.

The victory got Payson back to even at 1-1. As for American Leadership Academy, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Payson came out on top in a nail-biter against American Leadership Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Payson since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
