Softball Recap: Ellington Knights vs. North Branford Thunderbirds

On Thursday, Ellington faced North Branford in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Ellington Knights had just enough and edged the North Branford Thunderbirds out 4-3. Winning may never get old, but Ellington sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Camryn Fisher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts every time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Tyla Gambacorta was excellent, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double. Another player making a difference was Sara Gilbert, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

On North Branford's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kiley Mullins gave up just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Natalia Lucibello made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Ellington is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for North Branford, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ellington will challenge Bolton at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
