Venice, Desert Mountain take over top spots in South, Farwest.

With state playoffs coming to a conclusion in the southern and western parts of the United States, the regional rankings take on a much different look this week.

A total of 13 new teams entered the rankings in the Farwest, the Southwest and the South as Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Arizona and Nevada began crowning state champions.

Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took over the top spot in the Farwest after winning the Division I state championship. Coronado (Henderson, Nev.) moved up to No. 3 after winning the Nevada Division I championship.

In the South, Venice moved up to the No. 1 spot after winning the Class 7A state title in Florida. Pensacola Catholic dropped from the No. 1 spot, but its state championship win Tuesday has not been figured into this week's rankings.

In the Southwest, The Woodlands moved back into the top spot after slipping to No. 3 last week.

The regional rankings are based on the MaxPreps National Computer Rankings.
