Western Boone came tearing into Monday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Southmont Mounties a 3-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-4 on Monday.

The result came thanks to Easton Nance's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Western Boone's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Layton Yancey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Western Boone's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Southmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.
