Baseball Game Preview: Claremont Wolfpack vs. Montebello Oilers

The Claremont Wolfpack will challenge the Montebello Oilers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Claremont: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Montebello has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.

Claremont managed to slip by Upland the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wolfpack came up short against the Highlanders/Scots on Thursday, falling 12-6.

Ryan Elias was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Luke Porras was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Montebello unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 15-0 to Claremont. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Oilers, who until this contest were averaging 3.79 runs allowed.

Montebello also got a good showing from Ben Richards, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Richards has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Montebello's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Claremont, they now have a losing record of 6-7-1.

Claremont took their victory against Montebello in their previous meeting on Wednesday by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Wolfpack repeat their success, or do the Oilers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
