Basketball Recap: Beaufort Takes a Loss

Beaufort and Bishop England squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Beaufort had to settle for second. They came up short against the Bishop England Battling Bishops, falling 70-48. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Battling Bishops: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Beaufort saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jania Hayward went 6-for-13 en route to 20 points and three steals. The contest was Hayward's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaria Coaxum, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Bishop England got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lisse Van De Erve out in front who went 9-for-15 to rack up 20 points and four steals. Van De ErVe has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Olivia Allen was another key player, going 9-for-17 on her way to 21 points and eight boards.

Beaufort's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Bishop England, they pushed their record up to 23-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home.

Beaufort does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop England, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-37 defeat against Lower Richland on the 26th.
