Basketball Recap: Chapman Takes a Loss

Chapman suffered their biggest defeat since November 24, 2024 on Friday. 2025 welcomed they with a 57-35 loss courtesy of the Walhalla Razorbacks. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Razorbacks are ranked 33rd).

When it comes to explaining why Chapman lost, don't look at Krislyn Wilder. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Holmes, who put up five points.

Even though they lost, Chapman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Leading Walhalla to victory were Gianna Ortiz-Viera and Kami Roach. Ortiz-Viera went 9 of 12 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals, while Roach went 7 of 15 on her way to 21 points along with six boards and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Roach has scored at least a third of Walhalla's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley White, who had seven points and six rebounds.

Chapman's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Walhalla, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Chapman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-29 defeat against Dorman on the 4th. As for Walhalla, they will square off against Clinton at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Walhalla is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season.
