Softball Game Preview: Arcanum Trojans vs. Brookville Blue Devils

The Arcanum Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Brookville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Arcanum had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Dixie on Thursday. The Trojans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Greyhounds a 13-0 shutout. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Brookville posted their closest victory since May 8, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Valley View, sneaking past 12-10.

Rylan Eagle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Libby Nutter, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Maya Haydon was another key player, scoring three runs.

Brookville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Brookville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Arcanum, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Arcanum skirted past Brookville 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
