Softball Recap: Horizon Christian Wins Going Away Against Irvington Preparatory Academy

While Horizon Christian put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Irvington Preparatory Academy. Horizon Christian was the clear victor by a 19-0 margin over Irvington Preparatory Academy. Horizon Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Victoria Kiger and Lucy Long made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kiger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Long tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kiger has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Kiger got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs, while Long went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one double. That's the most RBI Kiger has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cambria Hathaway, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Mikulla, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Horizon Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Horizon Christian and bumps their season record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Horizon Christian will venture away from home to challenge Herron at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, they will head out to take on Riverside at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
