Baseball Preview: University Trojans vs. Irvine Vaqueros

The University Trojans will challenge the Irvine Vaqueros at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. University's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Irvine's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

University fell victim to Mission Viejo and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 8-0 to the Diablos.

University saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Ho, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Irvine). They put the hurt on Northwood with a sharp 9-1 win on Friday.

Jason Alderson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025.

At the plate, Smith Spivey was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Dressendorfer, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Irvine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

University now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Irvine, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-5.
