Recap: Archbishop Rummel vs. St. Augustine
St. Augustine missed a PAT kick in the third quarter against Archbishop Rummel on Friday, and it came back to haunt them. It could have gone either way late during winning time for St. Augustine or Archbishop Rummel, but it was Archbishop Rummel snatching the 35-34 win. This was a playoff contest, so the blow was especially dispiriting for St. Augustine.
That final score didn't come about without some excitement. Archbishop Rummel's senior Donovan Kaufman penetrated the defense for a 60-yard TD rush in the third quarter.
The loss dropped the Purple Knights back to even at 6-6. The victory for Archbishop Rummel kept them a perfect 11-0.
St. Augustine's playoff loss brings an end to their season. The Raiders will take on Brother Martin in each of the teams' second playoff game on Friday. It should be a fierce showdown as the Raiders are ranked first in the MaxPreps state rankings and Brother Martin is ranked sixth.
