Basketball Recap: Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Takes a Loss

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee was the 63-30 winner over Asheville Christian Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 55-54 to the Asheville Christian Academy Lions. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 60th in Georgia, while the Lions are ranked 213th in North Carolina).

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayla Frasz, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Frasz a new career-high. Lydia Mcnabb also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Asheville Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Larios, who went 6 of 15 en route to 19 points. Larios' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Bass, who went 7 for 15 on her way to 22 points.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-8. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

When Rabun Gap-Nacoochee and Asheville Christian Academy next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee will try to stop Buford's eight-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Asheville Christian Academy will challenge Asheville School (Independent) and their three-game winning streak at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
