Basketball Recap: Gavin Devoe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South over Maize South

South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 57-50 to the Maize South Mavericks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-51 back in January.

South's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Devoe, who posted 12 points. Devoe is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Myers, who put up eight points.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Maize South, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars take on the Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maize South, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Valley Center at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
