Basketball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

Wayne lost against Kanab back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Wayne Badgers lost 71-51 to the Kanab Cowboys. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Badgers have suffered since February 16, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore AJ VanDyke went 10 for 19 from beyond the arc on her way to 32 points and eight rebounds. VanDyke's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Makayla Jones was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Wayne moved to 11-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Kanab, their record is now 16-2.

Wayne has already played their next match (against Panguitch), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Kanab won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Parowan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Kanab's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten games.
