The Colerain Cardinals will head out to challenge the Sycamore Aviators at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Colerain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Colerain is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Middletown on Friday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Middies with a sharp 17-2 victory.
Olivia Woodson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Woodson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Colerain got a massive performance out of Natali McGuire, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Trinity Woods was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Colerain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Sycamore had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Princeton on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Gambaccini, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maddy Friedersdorf, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-8. As for Sycamore, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Sycamore's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Colerain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. It's a different story for Sycamore, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Colerain's hitters?
Colerain might still be hurting after the 24-4 loss they got from Sycamore when the teams last played on April 1st. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
