Softball Recap: Woodside Takes a Loss

Woodside fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Phoebus on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Phantoms by a score of 8-7. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Phantoms apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Hannah Swift was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over eight innings while giving up eight earned runs off nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Swift wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaena Antonia Kay, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.

Woodside has also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Phoebus, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

While Woodside had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
