Clay is a perfect 10-0 against Menendez since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Clay has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Clay turned things around against Orange Park on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since March 3rd.
Sadie Russo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooke Hamilton, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelye Rouw, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Clay hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Menendez had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 7-4.
Menendez also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ava Christman gave up four earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Rylan Degrande was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubree Green, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Menendez's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Clay, their victory bumped their record up to 9-14.
Everything went Clay's way against Menendez in their previous matchup back in March, as Clay made off with a 15-1 win. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
