Baseball Game Preview: Mason Comets vs. Middletown Middies

Mason is 9-1 against Middletown since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Comets will head out to square off against the Middies at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mason has three straight victories, Middletown has 17 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mason's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Oak Hills by a score of 4-0.

Not much got past Ben Hanley, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Oak Hills off the board. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Hanley.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cade Landheer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Middletown scored the most runs they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 11-8 to Lakota East.

Middletown's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Mason, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.

Mason was able to grind out a solid victory over Middletown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
