With a playoff win on the line, Washington County rose to the challenge on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Clarke County. Considering Washington County has won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophie Richardson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sadie Thornton was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Turner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Washington County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarke County only posted an OBP of .345.
The win snapped Washington County's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-16 record. As for Clarke County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.
