Softball Recap: Hailey Strother Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Putnam

North Putnam took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against South Putnam, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. While the Cougars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The result came thanks to Tori Detro's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North Putnam saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Strother, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

North Putnam's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for South Putnam, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Looking ahead, North Putnam will challenge Danville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups. As for South Putnam, they are taking a road trip to challenge Monrovia at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
