Basketball Recap: Marilyn Martinez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Junction over Johnson City

Junction was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Johnson City Eagles. While losing is never fun, Junction can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1308th, while Johnson City is ranked 407th).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marilyn Martinez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. Martinez is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Kynlee Doyal was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Junction smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. This was only their 13th loss (out of 17 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Junction's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Johnson City, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which somehow still isn't as good as their 24-6 record this season.

Junction didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-31 victory against Center Point on the 28th. Johnson City has also already played their next game, a 44-37 win against Harper on the 28th.
