Recap: New Brockton Gamecocks vs. Headland Rams
The New Brockton Gamecocks lost against the Headland Rams back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. New Brockton suffered a tough 42-20 defeat at the hands of Headland. While losing is never fun, New Brockton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 267th, while Headland is ranked 111th).
Headland had a senior duo take command as EASTON BOUTWELL threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes and CALEB DOZIER picked up 75 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Tylen Williams got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Headland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was DOZIER and his two sacks.
New Brockton's defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.7 points per game. As for Headland, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
New Brockton will be playing at home against Northside Methodist Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northside Methodist Academy is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. Headland will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Cottonwood at 7:00 p.m. on November 2nd. Cottonwood is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
