Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is San Juan's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

San Juan came out on top against Rowland Hall on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run second inning. The Broncos put the hurt on the Winged Lions with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Averie Gilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and two doubles while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, Madden Perkins was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Morgann Mcpherson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

San Juan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rowland Hall only posted an OBP of .308.

San Juan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Rowland Hall, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

San Juan wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 9-5 victory against Providence Hall on the 26th. As for Rowland Hall, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 16-11 loss against Judge Memorial Catholic on the 26th.
