Basketball Recap: Umatilla Takes a Loss

Umatilla played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Wildwood Wildcats 80-47. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-21.

Wildwood was led to victory by Demetrius Knight and Ashton Wilson. Knight almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Wilson went 6 of 11 en route to 14 points and six assists. Wilson is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Travonte Cousizan, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Umatilla is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Wildwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Umatilla won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Trinity Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Umatilla is facing Trinity Catholic at the right time seeing as Trinity Catholic is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Wildwood, they will also get right back to it: they'll face off against South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wildwood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.5 points per game this season.
