Basketball Game Preview: Riverside-Durham Pirates vs. Durham Academy Cavaliers

Having just played yesterday, the Riverside-Durham Pirates will get right back to it and host the Durham Academy Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Monday, Riverside-Durham ended up a good deal behind Athens Drive and lost 63-44. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Durham Academy over Charlotte Christian in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Durham Academy strolled past Charlotte Christian with points to spare, taking the game 72-56. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Knights are ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Riverside-Durham better keep an eye on Quin Frasher. He was instrumental in Durham Academy's win, going 8 for 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Frasher a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Dorsette II, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Durham Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Riverside-Durham, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Riverside-Durham skirted past Durham Academy 53-51 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Riverside-Durham have another victory up their sleeve, or will Durham Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
