Football Recap: Meridian Hawks vs. Metro-East Lutheran Knights
After flying high against Hutsonville/Palestine last Friday, Meridian came back down to earth. The Hawks had to suffer through a 60-26 loss at the hands of the Metro-East Lutheran Knights. The Hawks were down 48-19 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Meridian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bryce Brown, who threw for 348 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and Cam Dean, who picked up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown. Dean showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 53 yards.
Meridian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Maxwell Hubner and Terry OLaughlin. Another thorn in Metro-East Lutheran's side was Trenton Dowdy, who forced one fumble and made nine total tackles.
Abe Oberhauser continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Metro-East Lutheran, rushing for 162 yards and three scores on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 165 yards and four touchdowns. That's the most passing touchdowns Oberhauser has posted since back in October of 2024. Isaak Broekemeier was another key player, picking up 133 receiving yards and three TDs.
Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Metro-East Lutheran, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0.
Coming up, Meridian will challenge Milford/Cissna Park at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Bearcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Metro-East Lutheran, they will face off against South Fork/Edinburg/Morrisonville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,141 yards in their previous games.
