Centennial hasn't had much luck against Martin County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Centennial Eagles will face off against the Martin County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Martin County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Centennial, who comes in off a win.
Martin County will be up against a hot Centennial squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Centennial blew past Master's Academy 11-1 on Friday.
Brayden Scheumeister looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gio Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Armani Estevez was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Master's Academy only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Martin County didn't have quite enough to beat Eau Gallie on Friday and fell 4-2.
Martin County also got a good showing from Joseph Cuccurullo, who struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, Martin County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Centennial's record now sits at 3-0. As for Martin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Centennial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Centennial came out on top in a nail-biter against Martin County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
