Basketball Recap: Callaway Chargers vs. Columbus Falcons
The Callaway Chargers pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-55 to Columbus. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Callaway of the 73-66 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Callaway lost, one person who can't be blamed is Javarian Mallard. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Mallard hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Derek Byrd was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 15 rebounds and two steals.
Callaway now has a losing record at 13-14. As for Columbus, their win bumped their record up to 17-6.
Callaway will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rockets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neshoba Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully the Chargers like a good challenge. As for Columbus, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Ridgeland is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season.
