Baseball Preview: Lyons Lions vs. Lockport Porters

The Lyons Lions will take on the Lockport Porters at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lyons is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Lyons faced off against Proviso West on Thursday. The Lions put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 13-0 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Dylan Justinich looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lou Ratcliffe and Blake Ragsdale did most of the damage at the plate: Ratcliffe went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Ragsdale went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Ragsdale has posted since back in March. Luke Nicholaus also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in three consecutive contests.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Lockport and Lincoln-Way Central had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Porters fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Porters have lost by just one run.

Lockport also got a good showing from Jeffrey Bruining, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

Lockport's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7. As for Lyons, their record now sits at 15-4.

Lyons came up short against Lockport when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 7-3. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
