Recap: Stafford Trojans vs. Fairfield Falcons
The Stafford Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 46-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fairfield. Stafford has struggled against Fairfield recently, as their game on Tuesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Stafford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Taylor Denio. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 39% of Stafford's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madilyn Hearn, who scored nine points.
Mikayla Pugh continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fairfield, scoring 30 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pugh has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Erin Schwertfeger, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Stafford has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Fairfield, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Stafford on the road again on Friday and play against Central Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Fairfield, they will be playing at home against Goessel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
