Football Recap: Merrick Baroni and Zachary Moulton Pace John Paul II Defense

John Paul II lost against Pinewood Prep back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Golden Warrriors came up short against the Panthers, falling 48-28. The Golden Warrriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, John Paul II still got an impressive performance from Jadon Inabinett, who rushed for 62 yards and two scores, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Inabinett is becoming a predictor of the Golden Warrriors' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Jackson Reilley was in the mix too, providing John Paul II with one touchdown.

John Paul II didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Merrick Baroni and Zachary Moulton. John Paul II received some extra help from Reilley, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Lavoris Lucas was his usual excellent self, picking up 127 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 62 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries for Pinewood Prep. Lucas' longest reception was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Another player making a difference was Jayden Alexander, who picked up 78 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

John Paul II's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Pinewood Prep, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Coming up, John Paul II will face off against Florence Christian at 7:30 p.m. on the 7th. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Inabinett and Andrew Miller. Pinewood Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
