Basketball Recap: Nasir Spencer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newfane over Olmsted

Newfane and Olmsted squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Newfane had to settle for second. They fell to the Olmsted Owls 54-48. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Owls apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nasir Spencer, who shot 57% from the field on his way to 19 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Spencer a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mac Capen, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Newfane's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Olmsted, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-4.

Newfane does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Olmsted, they will face off against Middle Early College at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Middle Early College knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Olmsted likes a good challenge.
