Soccer Game Preview: Chavez vs. Monroe

The Chavez Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Monroe Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Chavez is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering North Hollywood just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 2-1. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Huskies are ranked 995th).

Meanwhile, Monroe kept a clean sheet against Grant on Friday. They skirted past the Lancers 1-0. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Vikings were the better team in the second half.

Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 10-4-3. As for Monroe, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-10-3.

Chavez took their victory against Monroe in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chavez since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
