Basketball Recap: Eagle Mountain Comes Up Short

Eagle Mountain lost against Decatur back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Eagle Mountain Knights fell to the Decatur Eagles 60-55. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Eagles are ranked 200th).

Despite the loss, Eagle Mountain saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avery Moses dropped a double-double on 28 points and 20 boards. That was a full 50.9% of Eagle Mountain's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Terry Cromer was another key player, going 5 for 9 to rack up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Eagle Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2024.

It was another big night for Javen Colbert, who went 9 of 20 en route to 38 points and three steals for Decatur. The match was Colbert's 12th in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adan Gonzalez, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points and three steals.

Eagle Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Decatur, they pushed their record up to 23-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Eagle Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-31 loss against Krum on the 31st. As for Decatur, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-50 win against Springtown on the 31st.
